Early Research Results are Stories
Community labs, DIY-bio clubs, and biohacker spaces let people do real biology without waiting for supervisors, university positions, or big grants, turning curiosity into concrete experiments in months.
Beyond access to equipment, they help builders create a proof of concept, and a public story and narrative for their work.
That story is what makes funders and important stakeholders receptive to listening closely, and gives builders a chance at future support.
Primordia Funds Many Small Beginnings
Primordia opens a new path for funding by providing up to $2.5k for small, well-scoped experiments conducted in community labs, covering months of membership, reagents and materials, with the goal of enabling a minimal viable experiment.
No strings attached.
Minimal overhead of 3% to cover digital service fees.
The government is not going to fund small experiments,
believers of this movement will have to do it.
We’re accepting initial donations to support the first cohort of projects aimed for Q1 2026
Donors can donate with as little as $1 and receive a detailed impact report at the end of each project cohort
ValleyDAO will match the first $10,000 in donations
Funding Criteria
Applicant has access to a local laboratory
No bio education background needed, but should be capable of designing and executing their intended experiment
Community Bio Breeds Success Stories
Muse Bio started during a
hackathon co-hosted by a
community lab and has since
raised $1.1M to commercialize
menstrual stem cells.
Zeon Systems (YC X25) started their experiments at a community lab, leading to a $6M fundraise.
Maggotbrain won a biosecurity
hackathon through the use of
enzymes for wound healing,
placing both of the
researchers in paid positions.
Founding Community Members
We’ve previously enabled the funding of $1,000,000+ in crowdfunded research, built communities of 5000+ members, and have created a connected network of the worlds’ community biolabs.
